About Sandra van Dulmen

Prof. dr. A.M. (Sandra) van Dulmen studied Psychology. She graduated in 1987 (cum laude) and obtained her PhD in 1996. Since 1995 she works at Nivel (Netherlands institute for health services research) as the program leader of the research program Communication in Healthcare. In 2012, she also became Professor (0.2 fte) in Communication in Healthcare at Radboud university medical center in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and later that year Professor II (0.2 fte) at the University of South-Eastern Norway in Drammen, Norway.

She obtained many grants for research in (person-centered) communication in e.g. pediatrics, oncology, primary care and medical genetics. In many of these projects, ICT using smartphones or the Internet is used to foster provider-patient communication. In 2001 she was co-founder and until 2014 secretary of EACH (International cssociation for Communication in healthcare). Since 2013, she is board director of the International College for Person Centered Medicine and member of the advisory board of the Center for Healing Health Communication, University medical center Vejle, Denmark.

She is a member of the editorial board of Patient Education & Counseling as well as of the International Journal for Person Centered Medicine and co-editor of Patient-Centred Innovation. She currently supervises 14 PhD students. She has published around 210 international papers in peer-reviewed journals and 75 papers in Dutch journals. Her current Hirsch index is 34 (Web of Science).
