Research Departments Medical BioSciences News Streamlining session department of Physiology

8 April 2019

In line with the Radboudumc strategy to reduce work stress and pressure, our department organized for all PhD candidates a session to discuss what needs attention during our daily work and how the efficiency of our work can be further improved. With the ultimate aim to improved the work pleasure.

On Monday April 10th, the department of Physiology organised for the first time a streamlining session. During this session, our PhD’s got together to discuss what needs attention during their daily work and how they think the efficiency can be improved. Indeed, solving some of these issues will hopefully result in resolving potential factors contributing to work-related stress.

For this session, specifically the PhD candidates from the Physiology department were invited to join as the focus of this meeting was on research activities and education tasks. It was a fruitfull and active meeting. Many topics were discussed and day-to-day activities were evaluated, in a constructive and proactive way. It turned out that many of the points raised were shared frustrations by other PhD candidates, resulting in a joint motivation to try and solve them quickly. The round-table discussions were summarised into a list of the top-5 issues that were valued most important to address within the department by the group. This list will be further discussed in more detail by a small committee to make a plan to improve the quality and efficiency of day-to-day research activities together with the management of the department.

We thank everyone for their input and willingness to contribute to this session and are looking forward to implementation of the solutions discussed.
