I started with my PhD at the Integrative Physiology group in December. My research is focused on improving the cardiac rehabilitation program. More specifically, I will try to explore the possibilities of improving the current center-based rehabilitation programs by using novel mHealth / eHealth alternatives. The goal is to develop and evaluate a mobile platform that can help heart patients rehabilitate from their homes.
Could you describe yourself in a few words:
Co-operative, inspiring, charismatic and friendly.
What do you normally do in the weekends?
During the evenings, I like to go out for a drink with some friends or play a good board game at home. Furthermore, I like to practice sports like swimming and running, but during the spring and summer months I preferably go on a climbing weekend in Belgium/Germany. I usually go with a group of climbing friends or with the local climbing club.
What are your hobbies and can you tell us something about your favorite one?
I have lots of hobbies: climbing, practice various sports, watching movies, reading or playing games. But my most favorite activity is outdoor climbing as I can combine this with two additional hobbies: camping and hiking. Sitting around a big campfire with a cold beer after a day of hard climbing is one of the best feelings in the world! Being outdoor and physically active always brings me great pleasure and it gives me lots of energy.
Could you describe your best holiday?
My best holiday looks a little like I described previously. A mix between being active and relaxing has my preference. I really enjoy camping trips “op de bonnefooi”, as you never know where you will end up making every vacation different and unexpected!
One of my favorite trips was camping and hiking in the north-east of the US where the nature is still wild, vast and very green! Hiking up the mountain for a few hours and then take a swim in one of the many lakes was one of my favorite experiences. In the future, I would like to explore the highlands of Scotland, the different landscapes of Iceland or perhaps investigate a little warmer destination such as Croatia!
What is your dream for the future?
I don’t have very specific plans for the future. As long as I can experience that cold beer while sitting around a big campfire with some friends I will be happy!
Please add a picture of yourself during a certain activity and add here a note explaining the photo:
This picture is taken on the “Welch and Dickey Mt Trail” in the White Mountains national park. One of the most beautiful places I have seen during my time in the US. The combination of almost no signs or directions with steep granite slabs made this both very challenging and fun!
In the monthly 'Employee's Personal Touch' an employee answers a few questions about the work, all with a personal touch. Now Thijs Vonk tells us his story.
