On behalf of our department, Jeroen and Wouter attended and were given the opportunity to present their data. After 2 years of digital meetings, it was great that we could present our data in a live meeting again and meet fellow physiologists from all over the world.
On Sunday April 3, Wouter presented the results from his MSc internship at the lab of Department of Physiology alumnus prof. Hendrik Dimke regarding the effect of gentamicin on renal calcium transport. Although it was an early morning session, there was ample interaction and a fruitful discussion after the talk, which was continued during the poster sessions. Moreover, Jeroen was invited to chair his own session on Tuesday April 5. This well-attended session contained exciting talks about novel mechanisms underlying renal electrolyte reabsorption. In this session, Jeroen himself also gave a well-received presentation on the link between RRAGD and renal electrolyte handling.
Another highlight of the Experimental Biology Meeting was the Renal Banquet, organized by the renal section of the American Physiological Society. This allowed networking in an informal setting, while also enjoying dinner at a beautiful location.
All in all, it was great to attend a physical meeting again! It allowed for a level of interaction that is impossible to match by digital meetings. Let’s hope that the pandemic is now finally over and that we can enjoy more live meetings in the future!
