Education

The ophthalmology department provides education for students, trainee doctors' assistants, general practitioners, ophthalmologists and nurses.

Degree in Medicine

Within the Medicine program, we offer an extensive introduction to general ophthalmology in the Bachelor’s phase. In the Master’s phase preceding the internship ophthalmology, students are given a practical workshop on ophthalmology for a period of one week. During the assistantship, the assistant learns to apply the knowledge gained in daily practice. Assistants participate in patient care at the outpatients' clinic and may observe in the operating rooms.

Degree in Ophthalmology

We give a five-years' training to become ophthalmologists. We do this in accordance with a completely revised Lokaal Opleidingsplan of 2012, based on the Modernisering Opleiding Oogheelkunde Nederland van de Medisch Specialisten Registratie Commissie. The medical interns who are training to become specialists (AIOS ophthalmology) work under the supervision of the ophthalmology staff. Every AIOS follows a peripheral practical internship at the Maxima Medical Center in Veldhoven.

University of applied sciences (hbo) internships

Students studying Ophthalmology at a university of applied sciences can do an internship with us. We offer internships for orthoptists and optometrists.

General practitioners

We offer postgraduate education to general practitioners in the region. This annual course is eight evenings long and finishes with an exam for the sub-certificate ophthalmology.

Ophthalmologists

The department contributes to refresher courses for ophthalmologists with Q and A evenings and annual follow-up symposiums.

Nurses and medical assistants

We provide an annual course for ophthalmologic nurses in Nijmegen.
