12 December 2017

On the snowy winter evening of 11 December the second edition of RIMLSpeaks entitled “Science; the game and the balls" was organized for all our (j)PI’s.

Our scientific landscape is changing continuously. The competition for grants is huge, the call for social responsibility and impact has risen sharply, NWO is implementing a new funding strategy in 2018, the reputation of science seems at stake by publications on “sloppy science”, publication pressure, over competitive funding, science is just an opinion, etc. During a thought-provoking debate Profs. Stan Gielen (Director of NWO), Paul Smits (Dean of Radboudumc), Daniel Wigbolus (President executive board of Radboud University) and René Bindels (Scientific director of RIMLS) discussed these issues with our (junior) principal investigators. After these lively discussions, there was a round table dinner to discuss some more in a social setting.
