Our young talents are the future of biomedical research.

Therefore, I am proud that the RIMLS institute participates in a unique series of symposia covered by the H2020 project ENABLE. Our aim is to foster the development of young research talents (PhD candidates and postdocs) by organizing outreach activities, masterclasses, workshops, micro-talks, etc. In this way, ENABLE creates a new network for European’s future scientific leaders.

International organisation

This Horizon 2020 funded initiative aims to i) promote excellence in biomedical sciences in Europe; ii) support young researchers; iii) strengthen (scientific) careers; iv) bring biomedicine closer to society. Together with 3 other renowned European Research Institutes (IRB Barcelona Spain - NNF CPR, Denmark - SEMM, Italy)  and an innovative science communication agency (Scienseed), we will establish unique, modern symposia that are organised by and for PhD candidates and postdocs. The following ENABLE symposia are organized in: Barcelona 2017, Copenhagen 2018, Nijmegen 2019 and Milan 2020.

Barcelona 2017

Last week the first symposium took please in Barcelona. On behalf of the RIMLS, Elja Louer, Helena Xicoy and Wouter Verdurmen were part of the organising committee for ENABLE 2017. Hereby, I would like to wholeheartedly thank them for their efforts to make this year’s edition a success.

For participants, there was ample opportunity to gain valuable experiences, by talking with professionals that moved out of academic research, or following workshops on business or science communication. Moreover, the participants showcased their research and Anique ter Braake from the RIMLS received a poster award for her presentation.

Interested in organising ENABLE 2019 in Nijmegen?

Do you want to contribute to the organisation of the ENABLE symposium 2019 to be held in Nijmegen? Please contact Dov Ballak before 5 December: Dov.ballak@radboudumc.nl

I believe that in a few years’ time, the ENABLE symposia will be an example for other conferences and has further supported young professionals in their careers. Therefore, I am delighted that by organising these events, the RIMLS actively contributes to a new network of bright, young European scientists.
