Types of PhD candidates

There are different kinds of PhD candidates at Radboudumc, differing in the length and type of contract, as well as additional (sideline) functions. The requirements for a doctoral thesis are identical for all PhD categories.

PhD thesis recommendations

The requirements for a PhD thesis are defined by the doctorate regulations of the Radboud University. In addition, the Radboudumc has guiding recommendations:
  • The thesis contains next to the core chapters and the introductory and concluding chapters, a summary, a short CV, a page describing research data management according to the FAIR principles and a portfolio (including a report of the doctoral education, e.g., courses, workshops, seminars, international conferences).
  • The thesis should contain three published or publishable chapters based on the candidate’s own empirical research. The candidate is first author of these three core chapters.
  • The candidate can be first or second author of one or two additional core chapters, which do not necessarily contain empirical data (e.g. review).
