To become sustainable, a biobank must balance its financial, social, and operational dimensions. Despite increased interest in the topic over the past ten years, effective strategies for sustainable biobanking are remain elusive Given that each biobank is inherently unique, one-size-fits-all solutions are challenging to implement. BBMRI-NL has made a series on sustainable biobanking, combining current knowledge from literature, workshops, and focus groups. The series contains an infographic with nine recommendations to make biobanks more sustainable; it includes additional practical tools, examples, and background information. Through this series, BBMRI-NL aims to provide support and inspiration for biobanks to help them find solutions that fit their individual situation. Moreover, as greater knowledge and attention is given to issues of sustainability, the field of biobanking will undoubtedly benefit.
