Reducing mortality by tuberculous meningitis
Tuberculous meningitis is the deadliest form of tuberculosis. With colleagues in Indonesia we have investigated and still are investigating how mortality can be reduced by studying barriers to optimal care, examine intensified antimicrobial treatment in clinical trials, and use cerebrospinal fluid ‘omics’ technology and genetics to identify targets for better host-directed therapy. With the results of these studies, local policy makers can make better informed decisions.
