The group of van Goor develops and tests innovative biomaterials to connect, seal, and reinforce tissues, accelerating healing. A major achievement is the validation of clinically relevant animal models (Surg Infect 2017) for studying adhesion prevention and anastomotic healing. This has increased the quality and transferability of animal research. The ‘mapping’ and prevention of major complications of postsurgical adhesion formation regarding individual patient and socioeconomic risks is used to unravel and predict abdominal pain processing. Dutch patients and international patients with chronic abdominal (postoperative) pain are given advice, a diagnosis, and specialized treatment.
