About
We strive for impactful research that leaves no doubt about its integrity. If concerns arise, we address them immediately in an open and learning-oriented manner. Breaches of integrity can range from obvious forms, such as data manipulation or misleading communication, to more subtle lapses in accountability or authorship.
Next to appropriate training, policies, and procedures, we view research culture as the foundation of research quality, providing the environment in which rigorous, relevant, and innovative inquiry can flourish. Our ambition is to foster an inclusive and collaborative research culture grounded in integrity, ambition, and mutual respect.
If you have questions or concerns about research integrity, please contact our Confidential Advisors for Scientific Integrity. More information can be found on this intranet page.

Research culture lies at the heart of research quality, serving as the fertile soil in which rigorous, relevant, and innovative inquiry can flourish. We believe that cultivating and maintaining an optimal research culture is not merely aspirational but essential to our mission of scientific excellence with impact. We have undertaken systematic measurement, reflection, and targeted action to reinforce psychological safety, accountability, and integrity across our community.
The Y-Based Framework integrates key dimensions of research quality, including rigor, relevance, originality, and research culture.

PhD candidates
- PhD supervision: Every PhD candidate has at least two and a maximum of four (co-)promotors, one acting as daily supervisor.
- Mentor: Each PhD candidate has a personal mentor, an experienced PhD supervisor from a different department who is not involved in the PhD candidate’s project. Mentors support candidates in scientific reflection and career planning and are available for help with challenges
- Confidential support is available for PhD candidates and postdocs who want to discuss challenges they experience during their academic journey, e.g., issues like collaboration problems or disputes with supervisors.
- Together, the Graduate School and HR provide a training program for supervisors, covering topics such as supervision skills, mental health, intercultural communication, and scientific integrity. Supervisors can also attend broader leadership and management courses offered by Radboudumc.

- RTC Data stewardship provides support and training for research data management (RDM) and research software. Their training, advice and expertise guides researchers through all phases of the Research Data Lifecycle.
- Open data - FAIR principles: At Radboud University and Radboudumc, all data and code underlying published work should be at least findable and accessible (F and A of FAIR). Radboud University also aims to ensure interoperability and reusability (I and R of FAIR) of research data. However, these are not currently requirements in the RDM policy of Radboud University and require further efforts. The Radboud Data Repository (RDR) is the preferred data repository to make data as open as possible and as closed as necessary. To support this process, most departments have a designated data steward, and the RTC Data Stewardship assists researchers with all data management-related questions.
- All PhD theses contain a description of the research data management.
