The research of the RTC 3D Lab focuses on the implementation of 3D technology in daily clinical practice. 3D imaging and 3D printing are used to perform virtual surgery planning and provide patient specific solutions instead of off-the-shelf solutions. Most importantly, this really provides a benefit for the patient. With this technology the patient can be treated with a shorter surgical procedure with an optimal result. This minimizes the need for re-operations which, unfortunately, are needed in a vast number of patients who have been treated with the conventional technique. The research of the 3D Lab focuses on software development for patient-specific implants and guided surgery, the use of augmented reality to guide surgeons, new developments in navigation surgery, surgical robotics, and the use of big data for automated diagnoses and treatment proposals.
