Ferhat Beyaz student of Medicine

Ferhat Beyaz is a fourth-year student of Medicine at Radboud University.

1 Who are you and what do you study?

I am Ferhat Beyaz and I'm a fourth-year student of Medicine.

2 Can you share why you chose this study?

It may sound like a cliché, but ever since I was young I have always wanted to help people. One can do so in many ways, of course. But I deeply admire the human body, the complex way in which diseases develop and how they are treated. Above all, I get lots of energy from talking to and guiding people around me. Considering all of the above, the programme of medicine seemed like a good fit.

3 Do you have any ideas about your future as a professional yet? What do you hope to achieve with your studies?

As for most students, I think my main goal is to become a good doctor. Before I started this programme I envisioned my main goal to be the doctor’s profession and primary patient care. However, over the last few years of my studies I have gained a lot of experience in extracurricular activities. I have been teaching within the faculty for a few years now, for instance, and have taken on several management jobs. These experiences weren't just a lot of fun, but have also expanded my vision of my future. In addition to patient care, my ideal future as a professional would include medical education, scientific research, and management.

4 What do you expect from the Career Service as regards your future career and the job market?

The Career Service gives all students at this wonderful faculty access to the opportunities that are offered regarding career orientation. Lots of events are organised and offered by various organisations within our faculty. Bringing all of these activities together in one clear programme so students can see all options, seems like a huge step forward to me. Besides, I think students should be able to have personal meetings about their career orientation with a kind of career coach: an expert to guide individual students on their professional orientation paths.
