Biomedical and genomics research is becoming more and more complex. The data that is being generated in modern biomedical research is growing exponentially, and is also growing in importance. Are you the Bioinformatics developer and data analyst we are looking for to support researchers and build better tools for data driven research at the Radboudumc Technology Center (RTC) Bioinformatics? We would like to get to know you!
As a bioinformatics developer and analyst, you will work together with scientists and other data experts to deliver bioinformatics data analysis, infrastructure and support to the various departments within the Radboudumc. You will focus on implementing state-of-the-art tools and build scalable bioinformatics pipelines. You will assist in the interpretation of the data and discuss the results with (bio)medical researchers.
One of the unique aspects of this position is that you will be involved in many diverse and innovative research projects that take place in all the departments of the Radboudumc. You will preform research analysis that can both contribute to fundamental science and direct impact on our patient's well being. You will get the freedom to work independently and develop your own bioinformatics and data science skills. Flexible work home office schedules are optional, with fixed in-office days.
Tasks
- Preprocessing, quality control, downstream processing, visualization and interpretation of omics data.
- Plan, create and execute bioinformatics data analysis and research projects.
- Work with omics data ranging from single cell RNA seq to deep sequencing variant calling.
- Development new data analysis pipelines and implement new bioinformatics methods.
- Translate complex datasets and results to (bio)medical researchers and stakeholders.
- Working on diverse computational platforms like clusters and the cloud.
- Documentation and versioning of code and maintenance of systems.

The RTC Bioinformatics is a small team that consists of several developers and bioinformatics staff scientists. At the RTC Bioinformatics we believe that computational biology and big data solutions are key in shaping the data-driven healthcare of the future. We provide complete data analysis support, give access to state-of-the-art bioinformatics methods and to the expertise and capabilities of Radboudumc’s bioinformatics community. The RTC Bioinformatics and the position are part of the Bioinformatics section of the Medical BioSciences department (MBS).
The MBS develops fundamental scientific methods that contribute to the understanding of disease mechanisms, personalized therapies and interventions, and a learning health care system. The MBS is located in a newly renovated modern office building on the Radboudumc Campus. The department fosters a lively, international and interactive scientific culture and aims to have a significant impact on health care by applying and developing methods for the analysis of biomedical data. You have a PhD degree, a Master’s degree with several years experience or Bachelors degree with 5+ years’ experience in Bioinformatics or Computer Science with existing knowledge of statistics and molecular biology. You have a PhD degree, a Master’s degree with several years experience or Bachelors degree with 5+ years’ experience in Bioinformatics or Computer Science with existing knowledge of statistics and molecular biology. You have proven experience with Linux, bash scripting and programming languages like Java, R and/or Python. Experience with Single Cell RNA seq analysis is preferential. Experience with workflow development in Nextflow, cluster job scheduling, containerization, software engineering and server administration is a plus. You work in a structured way, using version control systems (like Git).
A successful candidate can speak English on a professional level. You have a professional, proactive and supportive attitude. You can work independently and figure out the best approach to solving complex issues by yourself and clarify your way of working. You are flexible and communicative, and like to explain bioinformatics methods and results to biomedical scientists. You enjoy working on multiple and diverse projects in parallel, and in a team setting.

- A gross monthly salary between € 3.493 and € 5.504 (scale 10) for full-time employment (36 hours per week). You will also receive an 8% holiday allowance, an 8.3% end-of-year bonus, and, depending on the position, an allowance of 47% to 72% for working irregular hours.
- From 1 July 2025 an increase in salary with 3%.
- 176 vacation hours per year based on a 36-hour working week.
