Over Jorik Nonnekes
Jorik Nonnekes is a consultant physiatrist (specialist in rehabilitation medicine) at the Radboud University Medical Centre and Sint Maartenskliniek, both located in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. He started to study medicine at the Radboud University Nijmegen in 2004, and performed a scientific elective at the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London in 2008. He obtained his MD degree in 2010 (cum laude). In 2015, he obtained his PhD degree (cum laude), with his thesis entitled ‘Balance and gait in neurodegenerative disease: what startles tells u about motor control’. His thesis was awarded with the European Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine Prize, and thesis prizes of the Dutch Society for Movement Sciences, and the Dutch Society for Rehabilitation Medicine. Both his clinical and scientific work focuses on gait and balance impairments in neurological diseases, with specific emphasis on gait impairments in Parkinson’s disease and upper motor neuron lesions (eg stroke).
