Programma

Disorders of iron metabolism, such as iron deficiency and iron overload, are common and relevant in almost all medical disciplines. There is a growing need for deeper knowledge to improve the clinical management of these conditions.

Professor Dorine Swinkels has conducted pioneering research into iron metabolism over the past 30 years, and has translated this knowledge into clinical practice. With this farewell symposium, she aims to inform both Dutch researchers and clinicians about the latest developments in this field, inspire further fundamental and clinical research, and provide tools to optimize care for patients with iron-related disorders.

Experts from both within the country and abroad will share their latest insights on iron metabolism, diagnostics, and treatment strategies for conditions such as iron deficiency, hemochromatosis, and iron-overload anemia. Additionally, the health of blood donors will be addressed. From biobank research to clinical innovations, this symposium highlights the latest scientific breakthroughs influencing clinical practice.

Learning objectives: by the end of this symposium, participants will be inspired to conduct further fundamental and clinical research into unresolved research questions and will have tools to improve the clinical management of iron metabolism disorders.
